Former UFC light-heavyweight champion Jan Blachowicz doubts we’ll ever see Jon Jones fight again despite talk of an imminent return.

‘Bones’ is regarded by many as the best fighter in MMA history but hasn’t competed since February 2020 when he defended the 205lb belt by beating Dominick Reyes at UFC 247.

After that, the UFC Hall of Famer relinquished his belt and announced he will compete at heavyweight moving forward.

However, the bulking-up process, a UFC contract dispute, and a lack of viable opponents mean he’s been out of action ever since.

Jones has been pushing for a fight with the former heavyweight king, Stipe Miocic, at UFC 282 on December 10 but UFC boss Dana White recently confirmed that fight will not happen until 2023.

As the 35-year-old approaches three years on the sidelines, the man who won the belt he vacated, insists Jones will never fight again despite talking about it.

“I don’t believe Jon Jones will be back to fighting anymore. I think he’s afraid to lose so much, that he will do everything to not come back,” Blachowicz told Middle Easy.

“There was a time when he dominated completely our division. After a couple of years, everybody catch his level, and it was hard for him to dominate in fights.

“Like Dominick Reyes, it was a very, very close fight. Everybody that fought against him was a close fight.”

“So, I think that he starts feeling that he’s not so good anymore. That we’re growing and getting to his level, and finally, someone will stop him.

“I think the reason that he doesn’t want to fight is just that he is afraid to lose.”

Blachowicz successfully defended the light-heavyweight belt against Israel Adesanya before surrendering it to Glover Teixeira in at UFC 267 in October 2021.

Since then, the Polish knockout artist has picked up a win over top contender Aleksandar Rakic and has been booked to face Magomed Ankalaev at UFC 282 in what appears to be a title eliminator.

Meanwhile, Jiri Prochazka beat Teixeira in a thrilling fight earlier this year to take the 205lb belt which will be on the line when they rematch at the UFC’s final pay-per-view show of the year.
